Rob Gronkowski, former NFL star of the New England Patriots, recently shared his next steps in his post-NFL career. Gronkowski will be partnering with CBDMedic for the creation of topic pain formulas using CBD extract.
He shared with CNBC that his family, including his father, have inspired him to enter this stage of his career. His father was a businessman for 30 years, who imparted the value of hard work and dedication into him. Aside from mentioning his brother, Chris Gronkowski, and his Ice Shaker stainless steel shakers for protein shakes business, he also threw in the likes of Dallas Mavericks NBA team governor Mark Cuban and former-NFL football player Michael Strahan as examples of successful role models and businesses he admired in ‘life after sports’.
As to why he chose CBD, he stated:
“I’ve been hearing a lot about [CBD], starting this year … My first true experience with it — when I was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, this stuff works!’ — is when I jammed my three toes [playing soccer] and they were black and blue. I throw the [CBDMedic] cream on and, boom, it temporarily relieved the pain. I got to go through the rest of my day, put the shoes back on — because if you’ve got stubbed toes and put your shoe on, you’re going to start walking a different way …I knew right then and there, I was like, ‘Dang, this stuff works.’ [And] I was looking for something like that to help me relieve the pain that I’m in from doing activities and sports.”
In addition to getting into the CBD industry, Gronkowski is also appealing to sports leagues to update their position on CBD. He stated during a press conference, “I’m here today to appeal to the sports governing bodies of the world to update their position on CBD, whether that’s the NBA, MLB or NFL. It’s just time.”
“I think they should explore it and do what is best for the players. I kind of have thought that about a lot of different things. I think there’s a lot that goes into those types of decisions that are all collectively bargained. I know they are collectively bargaining a lot of those things. We’ll see how it shakes out.”
It appears CBD will start gaining much more media attention as the NFL season gears up for its annual kickoff, already seeing the likes of Terrell Davis and other football players back the notion that CBD is great for recovery and pain relief players experience on a weekly basis. While the verdict is still out about the NFL playing using CBD, there does remain optimism whether or not the New England Patriots tight end will be making a comeback into the NFL at some juncture this season.
